Because a lot of schools we’ve been working with are moving toward a more paperless classroom, they are creating their own workbooks and textbooks using the Pages app for iPad. A number of these make use of the placeholder image function to create a framework
If you want the students to add a response such as a photo of the setup or a science experiment, or a video of them explaining their results, you can create a placeholder for them to make it easy for them to add their own content. The following pictures can be used – just tap on them and add them to the picture library on your device.
To add them to your book in Pages or Keynote template, tap-select the picture then tap the format (paintbrush) button and select “set as placeholder” (see left)
A plus symbol will be added to the picture that the student can press to add their own content. The placeholders are mainly applicable to images and video but we have also created one for audio recording that you may find useful too.
Just tap the images above to save them directly to your device.
Want a learning symbols library too?
As well as that placeholders we have created a set of symbols that you can add to your “My Shapes” library in Pages and Keynote that offer a visual guide to help students add the appropriate response. You will also find symbols for creating mind-maps, buttons and flowcharts.
Full instructions for how to use them is contained in the documents. There is a version for Pages and a version for Keynote as they don’t share the “My Symbols” library.
